Production Coordinator Simo Mikkonen
Simo Mikkonen is one of Scanpole Oy’s newest employees at the Höljäkkä production plant in Nurmes. He started as a production coordinator in February 2022.

For the past two years Mikkonen worked with ERP-systems and digitalisation in Iivari Mononen group in Joensuu.
“I was solely a software specialist and worked on digitalisation for all of Iivari Mononen subsidiaries. It was a great way of getting a holistic view of the whole group’s operations, how the business works and what it consists of.”
Before joining Mononen the mechanical and production engineer Mikkonen worked at Outokumpu’s Outotec for six years.
“I worked with ERP-systems there too,” he says. His job at an international listed technology company took the young engineer and his family around the world from time to time, from Australia to China.
Production coordinator at Scanpole
In his new role as a production coordinator at Scanpole in the Höljäkkä production plant Mikkonen aims to “figure out who does what and when – to coordinate production.” Digital development within the group is still a part of his duties.
“When we work as a small group, the work field is broad and that’s how I like it.”
Working in a family-owned business is diverse and rewarding.
“When we work as a small group, the work field is broad and that’s how I like it. Everyone has their own strengths and they can be utilised outside one’s own responsibilities too. In bigger organisations work duties are often more regulated and limited.” Mikkonen tells.
The new responsibility has brought some changes to Mikkonen’s day-to-day life – an extended commute, among other things. “I’m becoming very familiar with the roads of Ahveninen.” At least at the beginning, he’s situated at Höljäkkä four days a week and at Iivari Mononen’s headquarters in Joensuu Science Park one day a week.
“There’s a lot to learn – to jump from the system side to planning production. I look forward to developing our processes together – that’s our aim.” Mikkonen states.
