Pieter Van Tilburg, who works as Ilseng's production coordinator, describes himself as an intermediary between the production management and the employees. In short, Pieter's job is to ensure that the poles delivered to customers are completed on time and that the quality of the products remains high. An integral part of his work is also communication with sales personnel and production planning so that all market segments receive their products on time.
With the new Pole+ products, Pieter has also been closely involved in product development.
"While developing Pole+ products, I have been involved in developing a product that is at the forefront of development and the future alternative to creosote. It was a great feeling when we got the product to work."
Pieter has a 10-year career at Scanpole. He previously worked in the hotel industry, started as an impregnator, gradually progressing to more responsible positions. He highlights experience from different tasks as an important part of succeeding at work. Because the work is done with natural products, problem-solving skills play an important role.
"I love my job and the work community. The people at the factory are like a own family, and you can work independently," he sums up the positive aspects of Ilseng's work community and continues:
"I experience feelings of success in my work every time a pole load goes to a customer or I see our products in use. That's how I know that the production chain has been successful."
Although Pieter considers the work community to be a family, his children are waiting for him at home after work: "Family is important to me. Work rushes are forgotten when spending time with them."

Scanpole's factory in Finland is located in the village of Höljäkkä, Eastern Finland, near the city of Nurmes. The factory has been in operation for more than 60 years. The impregnation plant was established for the production of sleepers, but impregnated poles soon became the main product. At the moment, 34 professionals work at the Höljäkkä impregnation plant.
Most of the poles impregnated in Höljäkkä are procured from the regions of North Karelia, North Savo and Kainuu. Scanpole's own procurement specialists are responsible for procurement. When poles are purchased from nearby areas, their transport distance is short.
The manufacture of poles begins with the debarking, after which they are sorted according to various standards and customer requirements. The poles are then toddled and allowed to dry in the open air. Some of the poles are dried in our kilns.
Dried poles are peeled to make the surface smooth and even. Poles are checked for dimensions, moisture content and quality. Marking, drilling and any other fabrication required by the customer are also performed at this stage.
The machined poles are impregnated, after which they are ready for delivery to customers.
